The founding of the Cahaba Alliance for Conservation and Sustainability was needed because established environmental groups such as the Sierra Club did not respond to the request from community members to support efforts protecting nature and supporting sustainable development. An alliance of community based groups working on local issues was necessary due to the absence of larger conservation groups.
However, there is still hope to rebuild the Sierra Club's advocacy to support community led conservation campaigns. Sierrans for Alabama has issued a press release calling on Sierra Club members to reclaim the organization's environmental leadership in Alabama. A pattern of exclusion has emerged within the Alabama Chapter that has shut people out who have tried to establish political programs to fight for clean air, clean water, and conservation in Alabama.

Join our call to revive Sierra Club's environmental advocacy in Alabama.
